Rubber strip

Adhesive tape is a flexible strip or rod material that is installed at the joints between glass and pressure strips, glass and frame fans, frame and fan, and fan to fan, used for waterproofing, dust prevention, air leakage prevention, reducing the damage that vibration and impact may cause to doors and windows, and thus sealing, sound insulation, heat insulation, and shock absorption.

Rubber strips are very important components in doors, windows, and curtain walls. The above functions determine that a good rubber strip must have excellent resistance to sunlight, ultraviolet aging, ozone aging, and heat oxidation aging, as well as low compression permanent deformation and creep, high and low temperature resistance, and rain resistance. In terms of processing technology, the rubber material should also have characteristics such as easy extrusion, small shrinkage deformation, and good flexibility. It can be said to be a small rubber strip, with a significant effect. The larger the use, the higher the requirements.

texture of material

In terms of material, EPDM rubber, which adopts high filling reinforcement and a multi-dimensional physical and chemical anti-aging system, has now become the adhesive used for sealing strips. Thermoplastic elastomers (TPE) have gradually become an ideal material to replace rubber and plastic in recent years, as they possess both the physical and mechanical properties of rubber and the processing characteristics of plastic. There are also certain difficulties in manufacturing sponge bodies in terms of technology, requiring special techniques, which limits their use. Currently, they are mainly used for frame fans and glass outer sides. Although TPV is closer to rubber, its high price has become another factor affecting promotion. Nowadays, the materials used for sealing strips have begun to show a trend of diversified development. Depending on the location, purpose, and required characteristics, different materials should be selected reasonably according to their durability and cost price. In the long run, the application scope of environmentally friendly and energy-saving TPVs on sealing strips will continue to expand.

The temperature tolerance of each material is also different. Here is a range table for everyone to refer to when choosing rubber strips:

PVC material (-25 ℃~60 ℃)

EPDM material (-60 ℃~150 ℃)

MVQ material (-60 ℃~300 ℃)

TPV material (-40 ℃~150 ℃)

classification

There are many types of rubber strips, such as sealing strips for frame and fan installation, glass installation, pressure and structural component matching, etc; According to the installation method, there are types such as press in, penetration, and adhesive sealing strips; According to the cross-sectional shape of the adhesive strip, there are solid core products (circular, square, flat cross-sectional shapes), hollow products, and composite products.

What I want to talk about in detail here is the composite sealing strip divided according to the cross-sectional shape of the rubber strip. Composite sealing strips are widely used in wood aluminum composite windows and foreign system doors and windows. For rubber sealing strips, cross-sectional design is crucial. Firstly, the shape and size of the sealing lip should be designed. The sealing lips on both sides should be in contact with each other with the same and appropriate force from both sides of the fitting structure; The length and thickness of the lip edge of the cross-section should be appropriate. Overly thick or too long will cause excessive resistance in the mating structure, while too thin or too short will result in poor guidance and sealing of the mating structure, leading to vibration, noise, and leakage; Next is the design of the shape and size of the bottom of the section. There are protrusions on the installation groove section, which are used to assemble the guide groove. Therefore, a corresponding structure should be designed at the bottom of the section, which is easy to install and can be attached to the groove by the elasticity of the sealing strip itself to prevent it from coming out; Finally, regarding the shape and size of the outer edge, in order to improve the appearance, all parts of the outer surface should be tightly fitted.

Design

I'm sure there are many people who are concerned about design issues. Here, take the secret recipe

1. Selection and design of sealing strips between frames and fans

1) The design scope and selection of rebound force for sealing strips between frames and fans should refer to Table 1.

Table 1 Design Requirements for Selection of Sealing Strips between Boxes and Fans

2) Selection of cross-sectional shape of sealing strip between frame and fan

The cross-sectional shape of the sealing strip between the frame and fan can be divided into two types, one is semi closed as shown in Figure 1-a, and the other is closed as shown in Figure 1-b. When the required design scope is large, it is advisable to choose a semi enclosed structure; When the required design scope is small, it is advisable to choose a closed structure. To ensure the compression rebound force of the rubber strip, the wall thickness of the rubber strip should not be less than 1mm.

Figure 1 Schematic diagram of the cross-sectional shape of the sealing strip between the frame and fan

3) Selection of installation method for sealing strips between frames and fans

The sealing strip between the frame and fan should be installed by pressing in. The size design of the installation position of the press in installation sealing strip should ensure that it does not fall off after fitting with the installation groove of the door and window profile. The design of the fitting size should adopt a tight fit.

2. Selection and design of sealing strips for installing glass

1) The design scope and selection of rebound force for installing glass sealing strips should refer to Table 2.

Table 2 Design Requirements for Selecting Sealing Strips for Installing Glass

2) Selection of cross-sectional shape for installing glass sealing strips

The sealing strips used for installing glass are divided into glass outer sealing strips (see Figure 2-1a for cross-sectional shape) and glass inner sealing strips (see Figure 2-1b for cross-sectional shape). To ensure effective elastic isolation between the frame material and the glass, the space size for installing the adhesive strip (see Figure 2-2 a) should meet the requirements in Table 3.

Note: A is the thickness of the gas layer, which can be taken as 6mm, 9mm, 12mm, 15mm, or 16mm.

Table 3 Space size requirements for installing rubber strips

Figure 2-1 Schematic diagram of the cross-sectional shape of the sealing strip for installing glass

Figure 2-2 Space dimensions for installing adhesive strips

3) The installation of sealing strips for glass should adopt a press in installation method.

① Glass is a brittle material and cannot come into direct contact with the frame. The rubber strip should have a certain thickness to ensure effective elastic contact with the frame and glass, and meet the moderate deformation of the glass. According to the Technical Code for Application of Architectural Glass JGJ113, corresponding requirements have been proposed.

② The installation of sealing strips for glass is usually done after the entire frame is assembled, so a press in installation structure is adopted.

3. Selection and design of isobaric sealing strips

The scope of work for the design of isobaric sealing strips (see B in Figure 3) and the design requirements for the selection of rebound force should refer to Table 4.

Table 4 Design Requirements for Selection of Isostatic Sealing Strips

Figure 3 Schematic diagram of the scope of design work (B)

The isobaric rubber strip plays a role in blocking air convection and heat radiation in profiles. The selection and design of isobaric rubber strips should meet both sealing requirements and door and window opening and closing force requirements. When the door and window sashes are closed, the deformation of part B should not be too large in the matching of equal pressure rubber strips
